How Much Does Personal Training Cost in the Greater Austin Area?

Cost of Personal Training

Personal training cost in the greater Austin area can vary significantly depending on the trainer’s experience, the type of coaching, the facility, and the services included. You may find personal trainers charging $70 or less per session, while experienced coaches and premium personal training programs can cost $150 or more.

In this guide, we’ll break down what affects personal training prices in North Austin, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Hutto, Georgetown, and the surrounding communities. We’ll also explain the difference between one-on-one and small-group personal training and what you should expect to receive for your investment.

1. The Coach: Experience, Education, and Specialization

The experience, education, reputation, and specialization of a personal trainer are some of the biggest factors affecting price.

Years of Experience and a Proven Track Record

Trainers with five, 10, 15, or more than 20 years of experience generally charge more than first-year trainers who are still developing their skills.

Experienced trainers are more likely to have:

  • A long history of client transformations
  • Strong client retention
  • Word-of-mouth referrals
  • Positive Google reviews
  • Proven training systems
  • An established reputation in the community

The fitness industry has a high level of turnover. Many trainers and gyms do not remain in business long term. Because of that, five, 10, 15, or 20 years of consistent success can reveal a great deal about a trainer or gym’s ability to help clients achieve lasting results.

Education and Continuing Development

Degrees in exercise science, kinesiology, biomechanics, and sports performance can indicate a strong educational foundation. However, the best coaches continue learning long after earning their original certifications.

When interviewing a trainer, consider asking:

  • What certifications do you currently hold?
  • What additional courses have you completed?
  • What are you studying now?
  • How do you continue developing your coaching skills?

At Bodies By Design, we hold approximately five to 10 seminars each year to help our trainers improve their technical knowledge, leadership, communication, and coaching abilities.

Specialized Expertise

A coach who has invested additional time and education into a specialty will generally charge more.

Specialized areas may include:

  • Post-injury training
  • Pre- and postnatal fitness
  • Older-adult fitness
  • Sports performance
  • Back-pain management
  • Weight loss and fat loss
  • Body transformation
  • Muscle development
  • Health and wellness optimization

A trainer with deeper expertise may be better prepared to address specific challenges, make appropriate modifications, and help clients achieve results more efficiently.

High Demand and Limited Availability

Coaches with full schedules, long-term clients, or waiting lists—especially during early mornings and evenings—can usually command higher rates.

When a coach consistently produces results and provides an outstanding experience, clients stay longer. That high retention creates limited availability.

Why Some Trainers Charge Less

Newer trainers may be fully certified and capable of providing a good workout, but they may not yet have an established history of results, professional consistency, or client retention. These trainers are often offered at discounted or associate-coach rates while they gain experience.

Newer coaches also tend to work as generalists. They may help clients become stronger, leaner, and fitter through foundational training but may not yet have the experience to address more complicated injuries, movement restrictions, sports-performance goals, or body-composition challenges.

At Bodies By Design, some of our coaches have more than 20 years of experience, some have more than 10 years, and we also have younger coaches whom we mentor closely through our trainer-development systems.

Bodies By Design has become known for mentoring and developing elite coaches. Several trainers who developed through our system have gone on to become recognized body-transformation coaches and successful personal training gym owners.

2. Session Format: One-on-One, Small-Group, and Large-Group Training

Personal training prices generally increase as the session becomes more exclusive and individualized.

Private One-on-One Personal Training

Private personal training is normally the most expensive option because the client receives 100% of the coach’s attention.

One-on-one training may include:

  • Fully customized programming
  • Individualized pacing and exercise selection
  • Continuous technique correction
  • Direct accountability
  • Private conversations about goals and challenges
  • Nutrition and lifestyle coaching

Bodies By Design does not currently offer ongoing one-on-one personal training. However, under certain circumstances, we may work with a client individually to help them build confidence, improve their technique, and prepare to transition into our small-group program.

One-on-one sessions at Bodies By Design range from $100 to $200 per session, depending on the coach assigned.

A reasonable estimate for professional one-on-one personal training in Austin is approximately $85 to $150 per session. The broader commonly advertised range is approximately $75 to $100, while some quality private-training services charge between $100 and $200 or more, depending on the trainer and what is included.

Small-Group Personal Training Is Our Superpower

At Bodies By Design, small-group personal training is what we do best.

More than 20 years ago, we became one of the first gyms in North Austin and Pflugerville to offer a small-group personal training membership. Since then, we have helped more than 5,000 clients achieve sustainable, long-term results through this proven model.

Bodies By Design founder Fred Sassani created this approach because he believed high-quality personal training should be available to more people.

Traditional one-on-one training was not financially realistic for many clients and often limited how frequently they could train. Fred wanted to provide expert coaching, individualized attention, accountability, and measurable results at a more accessible cost.

Individualized Coaching Within a Community

Most small-group or semi-private programs include approximately six to 10 clients working with one coach.

Although clients train together, the coaching remains personal. Each workout considers the client’s:

  • Goals
  • Fitness level
  • Movement abilities
  • Training experience
  • Previous injuries
  • Current physical limitations

The small-group model also provides something private training cannot always offer: a strong community.

Training alongside others creates greater energy, encouragement, camaraderie, motivation, and accountability. Clients challenge and support one another while continuing to work toward their individual goals.

Many gyms have attempted to create similar programs, but effective small-group personal training requires more than placing several people in the same workout. It requires experienced coaches, individualized programming, a proven system, and a community of people who trust the process.

A Track Record of Long-Term Retention

The average Bodies By Design client remains with us for approximately six years, and more than 30 clients have been part of our community since we opened in 2002.

That trust is also reflected in more than 200 five-star Google reviews, where clients share their experiences with our coaching, community, and results.

That level of loyalty reflects the trust, consistency, family atmosphere, and lasting relationships Coach Fred and the Bodies By Design team have built.

A Community That Gives Back

The Bodies By Design community extends beyond the gym. Each year, our coaches and members come together to support local families and charitable organizations, giving clients an opportunity to make a meaningful difference alongside the people they train with.

During the holiday season, Bodies By Design adopts local families through Communities In Schools of Central Texas, helping fulfill wish lists and provide gifts, groceries, clothing, hygiene products, and gift cards. Our members look forward to participating in this tradition and helping local families feel supported. Read about one of our recent holiday giving efforts.

Bodies By Design also supports and sponsors the Chris Kelley Foundation, which supports first-responder and military families, and brings members together for our annual Calories for St. Jude fundraiser benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. These efforts allow our clients to turn the strength of the BBD community into support for people outside our walls—something our members genuinely enjoy participating in each year.

Health Education Beyond the Gym

Coach Fred Sassani also writes health columns published by the Austin American-Statesman and Pflugerville Pflag, sharing practical guidance on fitness, nutrition, mindset, and sustainable lifestyle change with the wider community.

Fred’s training philosophies and professional insights have also been featured in Texas Monthly, Austin Fit Magazine, KXAN, Community Impact, the Round Rock Leader, Univision, and other media outlets.

Large-Group Team Training

Bodies By Design also offers a larger team training workout on Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. as part of our small-group personal training membership.

Large-group programs commonly include approximately 10 to 20 participants. Because our facility includes more than 5,200 square feet and premium equipment, we can comfortably accommodate up to 40 clients while still providing plenty of room to move.

Large-group sessions offer outstanding energy and are generally led by one or two coaches. However, they cannot provide the same level of customization and individual attention available in small-group or private personal training.

The more of a coach’s direct time and attention you are purchasing, the higher the price per session will usually be.

3. Session Length, Frequency, and Commitment

The length of each session, the number of weekly workouts, and the length of the training agreement can all affect the cost.

Session Length

A 60- to 75-minute training session will generally cost more than a 30- to 45-minute session.

Most one-on-one sessions last approximately 60 minutes, although some gyms offer 30-minute options. Sports-performance sessions may sometimes last as long as 90 minutes.

In many cases, a 60-minute session provides enough time for:

  • A quality warm-up
  • Mobility work
  • Power development
  • Strength training
  • Lean-muscle development
  • Conditioning

Shorter sessions may cost less, but they will not necessarily cost half as much. The coach still spends time on assessments, preparation, programming, and accountability outside the appointment.

Commitment and Training Frequency

Single-session purchases and short agreements usually cost more per session because the trainer has no guaranteed future revenue.

Longer commitments often lower the average session cost while also producing better results. Consistent training gives the coach enough time to assess the client, create a plan, develop habits, monitor progress, and make appropriate adjustments.

Training two to four times per week under a three- to 12-month agreement will often provide a better per-session rate than purchasing occasional workouts.

Bodies By Design does not offer occasional drop-in personal training. Instead, clients can use their first 30 days as a trial period to determine whether our program is the right fit.

We do not simply tell clients what exercises to perform. We assess them, coach them, educate them, and create a personalized path forward.

Peak and Off-Peak Times

Early mornings and after-work training times are considered prime appointment times and may cost more at certain gyms.

Late-morning and mid-afternoon sessions may occasionally be discounted because they are easier to fill. However, the value and expertise of a coach do not change based on the time of day.

At Bodies By Design, clients have access to an open schedule rather than paying different prices based on session frequency or time.

4. What Is Included Beyond the Workout?

You are not only paying for the hour you spend exercising.

Pricing also reflects the assessments, planning, programming, nutrition support, communication, and accountability that take place before and between sessions.

Our Three-Step Onboarding Process

Step 1: Client Intake Forms

We begin with a comprehensive intake process to gather information about the client’s:

  • Health and exercise history
  • Lifestyle and schedule
  • Goals
  • Injuries and limitations
  • Training preferences

Step 2: InBody Assessment

We conduct testing with the InBody machine and review the results in detail.

This allows us to evaluate measurements such as:

  • Muscle mass
  • Body-fat percentage
  • Lean body mass
  • Water weight
  • Resting metabolic rate

Step 3: Movement Screen and Performance Assessment

We then conduct an in-depth movement and performance assessment that may evaluate:

  • Power
  • Upper- and lower-body asymmetries
  • Mobility
  • Stability
  • Movement quality
  • Current performance level

The purpose of this process is to accurately determine the client’s starting point and create a safer, more effective, and more personalized path toward their goals.

“Awareness precedes change, and assessment precedes awareness.”

When you are not assessing, you are guessing.

Program Design Outside the Session

High-quality programming considers more than the workout completed in front of the coach.

A complete plan may include:

  • Strength-training days
  • Conditioning
  • Mobility and recovery
  • Travel workouts
  • Home workouts
  • Lifestyle demands

At Bodies By Design, clients receive access to a programming app that allows them to view exercises, sets, repetitions, training weights, instructional videos, and coaching guidance.

Clients also receive direction regarding which small-group and team training sessions are most appropriate for their needs.

Nutrition Coaching

Training and nutrition work together to produce better results than either can produce alone. However, many big-box and boutique gyms do not include nutrition coaching.

Bodies By Design created the Bodies By Design Nutrition System to simplify the process and help clients understand their next steps without becoming overwhelmed.

Our nutrition guidance considers each client’s:

  • Lifestyle
  • Preferences
  • Goals
  • Schedule
  • Current habits

Resources include nutrition guides, recipe books, educational materials, and frequent seminars focused on creating sustainable habits.

We also record many of our nutrition seminars so members can review them later.

Accountability and Communication

The best coaching extends beyond the gym.

Depending on the client’s needs, support may include:

  • Between-session communication
  • Progress reviews
  • App access
  • Habit tracking
  • Weekly accountability
  • Nutrition and lifestyle guidance

The coaching process can be compared to a GPS.

You are currently at Point A with your health, fitness, body composition, and performance. You have a Point B that you want to reach. Training, nutrition, accountability, and lifestyle coaching provide the path between those two points.

Additional Services

Bodies By Design clients also have access to:

Massage therapy is available for clients who want additional recovery and relaxation after training or on their non-training days.

We also offer high-quality supplements for clients who choose to include them as part of their health and fitness plan.

Session-Only Training

Personal training prices are usually lower when the service is limited to showing up, completing a workout, and going home.

However, the best body-composition and health results generally come from combining consistent exercise, nutrition improvements, lifestyle changes, professional guidance, and accountability.

At Bodies By Design, our rates reflect the complete coaching experience—not only the training session.

5. Facility, Equipment, and Location

The location and quality of a facility also influence pricing.

High-Rent Areas and Growing Communities

Facilities located downtown, in business districts, or in high-cost-of-living areas normally have greater operating expenses.

Austin and its surrounding communities generally have higher costs than smaller towns. Pflugerville, Hutto, Round Rock, and Georgetown have also continued to grow, contributing to rising commercial rents and operating expenses.

Boutique Facilities and Amenities

A boutique personal training facility may provide:

  • Smaller client-to-coach ratios
  • A private or semi-private environment
  • Clean bathrooms and showers
  • Premium equipment
  • Physical therapy and massage partnerships
  • A stronger community atmosphere

Unlike an open gym, a boutique training facility can reserve its space and equipment for coached clients.

This creates less traffic, better equipment access, fewer interruptions, and a safer, more client-centered experience.

A big-box gym primarily provides access to space and equipment. A boutique personal training studio provides coaching, guidance, accountability, and a structured path toward results.

Specialized Equipment

Turf, sleds, lifting platforms, specialty bars, rehabilitation tools, and fitness technology all increase the cost of operating a facility.

However, equipment alone does not create results. The coaches must know how to use those tools and incorporate them into an effective program.

A new gym may have impressive equipment but lack the experience and systems required to use it effectively.

Lower-Cost Facilities

Big-box gyms and community centers can spread operating expenses across hundreds or thousands of members. This may lead to lower personal training prices, but it can also result in:

  • Less individualized attention
  • Higher coach turnover
  • Limited accountability
  • Less consistent programming

Minimalist or warehouse-style facilities may also charge less because they provide fewer amenities. These environments can still be effective when the value comes from knowledgeable, experienced coaching.

The Bodies By Design Facility

Bodies By Design is a results-based boutique gym focused on transformation and performance.

Our facility, equipment, services, and amenities create a unique combination, but the primary reason clients seek us out is our reputation for producing reliable results.

Many clients come to us after trying to reach their goals on their own or after participating in other programs that did not provide the coaching, structure, or accountability they needed.

6. Who Employs the Trainer?

The trainer’s employment and business model also affect pricing.

Independent Studios and Boutique Gyms

Independent personal training studios generally charge more because they provide:

  • More personalized service
  • Smaller training groups
  • Customized programming
  • Staff development
  • Greater accountability
  • Nutrition and lifestyle guidance

These businesses depend on helping clients achieve results and remain part of the community long term.

Their success does not depend on selling thousands of low-cost memberships. It depends on creating successful client experiences.

Independent Trainers

Trainers who operate their own businesses inside another gym must account for expenses such as rent, insurance, taxes, equipment, and other business costs.

Those expenses are reflected in the session price.

Big-Box Gym Trainers

At a large commercial gym, the company typically sets the training rate and pays the coach a portion of the session fee.

The advertised price may be lower, but the trainer may also receive a smaller share of what the client pays.

New Independent and Online Coaches

Newer independent trainers and online-only coaches may have lower overhead and may pass some of those savings on to their clients.

Independent studios like Bodies By Design generally charge more than chain gyms because we hire qualified coaches, invest in education and mentorship, maintain smaller client-to-coach ratios, and provide coaching beyond the workout itself.

7. Trial Periods, Guarantees, and Flexibility

The amount of flexibility and risk assumed by the gym can also influence pricing.

The Bodies By Design 30-Day Trial Period

Bodies By Design offers a 30-day trial period.

During those 30 days, clients can participate in:

  • Small-group personal training
  • Team training
  • Nutrition coaching
  • Available training sessions

The purpose is to make sure Bodies By Design is the right fit for the client and that the client is also the right fit for our system.

Scheduling Flexibility

Flexibility is one of the biggest advantages of small-group personal training.

With one-on-one training, arriving late often means losing part of the appointment. Traffic and unexpected events happen, and clients cannot always arrive at an exact time.

With small-group training, a client may be able to attend the next session or reschedule for another day while still receiving the same level of coaching.

Programs that offer multiple training times, easy rescheduling, and travel workouts may cost more because they provide greater convenience.

Lower-Cost, Less-Flexible Programs

Programs with lower prices may have:

  • Tight cancellation windows
  • Fewer rescheduling options
  • Less flexibility around absences
  • Limited support outside the session
  • No trial period or guarantee

In these programs, the client may simply be purchasing time with a trainer and assuming most of the risk.

Bodies By Design Personal Training Pricing and Plans

Throughout Greater Austin, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Hutto, and Georgetown, one-on-one personal training commonly ranges from approximately $90 to $150 for a 60-minute session.

Small-group personal training in the area commonly ranges from approximately $25 to $50 per 60-minute session.

For many busy professionals, small-group personal training provides the strongest return on investment.

Clients receive customized programming, in-person coaching, accountability, greater scheduling flexibility, and the ability to train more frequently than most people could afford with private training.

Our Flagship Small-Group Personal Training Program

Group sizeTwo to 10 people
Session length60 minutes
Program typeIndividualized small-group personal training
StatusOur most popular and highest-value program

Bodies By Design provides clients with access to 27 training sessions throughout the week.

The average Bodies By Design client attends two to three times per week, while some clients train four or five times per week.

Training more frequently does not increase the membership price.

When clients first join our fitness family, we conduct a complete assessment to determine their current health and fitness levels. We then recommend the appropriate amount of training and recovery.

As their strength, fitness, and recovery improve, clients may be encouraged to increase their weekly attendance.
