I'll never forget the day I walked into BBD, in 2014. I was ashamed of who I was and desperate for a change. Even though I had made some positive changes in my life and was no longer at my all time high weight of 236 lbs , I just couldn't seem to breakthrough the mental and physical barriers to get to where I really wanted to be - feeling fit, healthy, and proud of how I looked.
I was so desperate that the week previous to walking into BBD, I had even gone for a consultation on liposuction. In my heart, I knew this was not the right answer. But I was desperate. I was going to be 60 in the near future and knew things had to change.
Meeting Donovan the day I walked into BBD was a life changer. It was meant to be. He set me up with the right small group training session. Let me say - I love the small group training. You get the best of both worlds. A "personal" trainer along with the energy of feeling part of a team.
Donovan is great about understanding when to push and when to modify exercises. I had joined other gyms before and had even had a couple personal training sessions. But, it always felt non-personal. Just get on this piece of equipment and do so many reps kinda thing.
What I love about the approach at BBD is that I didn't have to think about it. I go in and I know that Donovan is going to have a great workout planned with all different types of exercises.
But, probably equally important for me was the above and beyond other gyms that Donovan and BBD provide. One of my biggest challenges is the mental games I play in my head. I am the typical emotional eater. Every emotion required some kind of food intake.
Donovan seemed to offer the right suggestions at the right times. Probably one of the best things I did was participate in a challenge that BBD did. Part of the challenge was that we were required to read a certain book. It came along at the right time for me and helped me fit together more of the fitness puzzle and move me further along in my health and fitness goals.
During my time with BBD I have gone through the care, illness and death of both my Father and Mother. I did go through a setback with my Father but with the growth in my health and fitness journey, when my Mother also started failing, I was able to draw from the things that I learned and stay true to my health and fitness goals.
Knowing that I can get through this emotional experience and stay true gives me confidence that I can continue my goal of a Healthy and Fit lifestyle.
Thank you Donovan and BBD for giving me the tools I need to continue on my personal journey to be Healthy, Happy and Fit!!
